State-owned Steel Authority of India (SAIL) in 2016-17 has posted its best sales performance with a growth of 8%. The company in 2016-17 sold 13.143 million tonnes of steel; and March sales were 21% higher, standing at 1.575 million tonnes, as compared to the same month a year ago.
While in 2016-17 SAIL posted 12% jump in production; and during the year its exports tripled. JSW with a crude steel output of 15.80 million tonnes, which was up 26%, met its target of 2016-17 as compared to a year ago.
The company’s flat steel production stood at 11.41 million tonne, and was up 23% (YoY); while long products stood at 3.21 million tonnes, growing 18%. Long steel is used in construction and infrastructure; and flat steel is used in automobiles.
