Wipro Deboards Nearly 500 Employees Post Harsh Performance Appraisal

Multiple media reports said that India’s third largest software exporter, Wipro as a part of its appraisal process has gotten rid of around 500 employees.

The move of weeding out the non-performers come at a time when the IT sector is finding it difficult to battle the challenges such as protectionism and automation in its main markets.

Already, major IT companies have decreased campus hiring and moved the employee whose roles were marginalised owing to automation in different projects, said reports. 

While speaking to a leading business daily Wipro said that they on a regular basis to align its workforce with the business, organisation’s strategic priorities and requirements of their clients, undergo a rigorous performance appraisal process.

The IT major had 1,79,129 employees at the end of December. While, Infosys, a cross-town rival of Wipro earlier had said that they as they deployed more automation to do resistive tasks being done by engineers, have reduced the hiring by as much as 60% as it deployed.

The Wipro-rival in 2016-17 added 6,320 to their workforce as compared to 17,857 in the year-ago period revealed a report.
